Medical
Crews
The importance of experience in the care and
transport of a patient cannot be underscored. At
American Medflight, our on board medical crew
consists of a Critical Care Flight Nurse and
Critical Care Flight Paramedic who have the
knowledge, skills and experience to provide
Intensive Care Unit (ICU) level monitoring and
patient care from bedside to bedside.
On average, our Critical Care Flight Nurses
have decades of experience in all facets of
nursing with emphasis in ICU, ER, Cardiac and
Pediatric care. Their skills are enhanced
through monthly continuing education and
specialized training opportunities.

All of our Flight Nurses are certified in
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric
Advanced Life Support (PALS), Basic Life Support
(BLS), Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR),
Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) or
equivalent; and hold specialized EMS-RN
licenses.
Our Critical Care Flight Paramedics are
nationally registered Emergency Medical
Technicians (EMTs) and certified in Basic Life
Support (BLS); Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS),
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS),
Pre-hospital Trauma Life support (PHTLS) and
hold specialized Air Ambulance licenses.
Flight Physiology
Most importantly is the Flight Physiology
training that our medical crews receive to
understand the effects of altitude and flight on
a patient. Flight physiology consists of
training in physical gas laws, additional
stresses of flight and altitude, interventions
in patient care, safety, communications and
overall management of critically ill and trauma
patients while in flight.
Pilots
Our pilots love to fly and they fly for American
Medflight because we save lives every day. As an
employee-owned company, our pilots know they
contribute to the company by flying safely and
offering their input to continuously improve the
flight experience for the patient, family
members and the medical crews.
Each of our pilots have over 3000 hours of Pilot
In Command (PIC) experience, turbo prop,
multi-engine, instrument and commercial ratings
and care very much about the safety of the
aircraft, the flight and the passengers.
American Medflight sends all new pilots to
Flight Safety to enhance their skills and
knowledge of the aircraft and its systems. Each
pilot must undergo an extensive background
check, regular random drug testing, daily flight
quizzes, line checks, ramp checks, flight
checks, and other proficiency testing as a
condition of employment.
